Art historian and editor who wrote on German expressionist and Mexican art. He received a doctorate from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, and taught at NYU, the Art Students League and City University of New York. From 1959 to 1970 he was editor in chief for art books at McGraw-Hill.
