Description

Divided into 3 subseries and contains research and bibliographic materials, transcriptions, ground plans, drafts of preliminary reports, publication materials, and correspondence. Contents also include the research materials and notes of Alexandre Piankoff, who assisted in the preparation of publications using materials gathered by Thomas Whittemore. These items document Whittemore’s involvement with the Egypt Exploration Society as the American Representative on staff in Egypt throughout the 1910s and 1920s.

Subseries 01 contains materials related to excavations at Abydos during the 1910s to the early 1930s. Subseries 02 consists of materials related to excavations that took place at Amarna in the 1920s. Subseries 03 contains a compilation of research materials concerning sites in Egypt and other countries that relate to Amarna. Many of these are mentioned in Whittemore’s preliminary report on the EES excavations during the 1924-1925 season at Amarna.
