Father Francis Dvornik was born on August 14, 1893 in Chomýž, Moravia (the modern-day Czech Republic) and died on November 4, 1975. At Dumbarton Oaks, he “completed two important chapters for the work on the Church of the Holy Apostles and continued the writing of his book “Political Philosophy of the Christian East’” in the academic year of 1947-1948. In 1953-1954, Dvornik “pursued his studies on the Idea of Apostolicity in Byzantium and the legend of the Apostle Andrew,” while also working on other topics in the field. Additionally, he was appointed Professor of Byzantine History from 1949 until his retirement on June 30, 1964. Immediately after that, “[the] Trustees voted that Father Dvornik be appointed Professor of Byzantine History, Emeritus, [on] July 1, 1964.”
