Scope and content

Photographs document the restoration work of the frescoes at the Church of the Panagia Amasgou in the town of Monagri, Cyprus. In 1969, with the permission of the Bishop of Kition and the cooperation of the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, Dumbarton Oaks was granted a permit for the cleaning, preservation, and survey of the paintings in the monastery church. Work was carried out under the supervision of David Winfield with the assistance of Yani Makrides and local employees. Richard Anderson joined the work at the end of 1969 and in 1970 to draw a plan and elevation, and to photograph the project.
