Dates of existence

Robert Pierpont Blake was born in California. He was a historian, a professor at Harvard University, and a director of the University Library from 1928-1937. He was married to Nadezhda Kryzhanovskaya and had a son, Igor Robert, who later edited a book of his father's work, "In Search of Byzantium, a Biography: The Life of Robert Pierpont Blake."

In the academic year of 1942-1943, Blake supervised the work on the "Fontes" project at Dumbarton Oaks, as well as started the work on the project called Byzantine Bibliography, which was an effort to create card catalogs based on the sources found in Krumbacher's Geschicte der Byzantinischen Literatur and the forty volumes of the Byzantinische Zeitschrift. The project possibly ended in the academic year of 1944-1945.
