Historique

Milton Vasil Anastos was born on July 10, 1909 and died on April 10, 1997. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Classics and Ph.D. in the Department of History at Harvard University. At Dumbarton Oaks, his appointments include: Junior Fellow (1941-1943; he was involved with the “Fontes” project), Assistant Professor of Byzantine Theology (1946-1951), Associate Professor of Byzantine Theology (1951-1960; he also received a Fulbright and Guggenheim fellowships in September 1954-December 1955, and an appointment at the Harvard Divinity School as a Visiting Associate Professor at the same period until 1958), and Professor of Byzantine Theology (1960-June 30, 1964). In 1964, he joined the faculty of the Department of Classics and History as a Professor of Byzantine Greek at the University of California, Los Angeles.
